Electrogravitic Power Supplies

High Voltage DC Experimental Electrical Source

Presented below are my high voltage power supplies, which are really the essential electrical component of any potential electrogravitic flight. While a few brave electronics geeks have successfully salvaged older CRT monitor parts for their power supplies, I wanted to play it a little more “safe” in my own experiments. So with a not unreasonable concern for my personal health and well-being, I choose instead to invest in these two slightly more reliable, and power variable units.

Information Unlimited GRA-30 25kv@1ma DC Power Supply

The first high voltage power source I acquired for my experiments was comprised of an early GRA Series Power Supply, purchase from those most helpful people at Information Unlimited, currently paired to a basic Radio Shack 13.8 Volt/ 3Amp, AC to DC Power Converter. This very simple and easy to use little unit produces stable electrical current rated at somewhere over 20KV DC at 1mA. To remove particular unknowns from my Lifter experiments, I’ll forgo using a cobbled together power unit (which I don’t trust myself enough to construct properly anyway) choosing instead this professionally assembled power supply. It just made sense to find an affordable alternative to playing around with some old, finicky (and potentially rather dangerous) computer monitor that I ‘hot-wired’ into a makeshift power supply. Another very important lesson: KEEP YOUR DAMN FINGERS AWAY FROM THE LIFTER WHEN IN OPERATION! and DISCHARGE ANY REMAINING CURRENT IN YOUR LIFTER AFTER EACH FLIGHT! Granted, running these experiments at slightly over 1mA, I’m not too likely to kill myself, or anyone else… But take it from a wiser voice of personal experience: When +20KVs of hot electrical juice flows into any part of your body, it hurts like bloody HELL!

Not too long ago… an experiment abruptly ended with a bit of blue smoke, and the smell of fried electrical bits. Seems that I had burned out something important on the good old GRA3 High Voltage Power Supply. Decided the time had come to either try and repair, or otherwise replace, this very portable power supply. The Result: (although perhaps slightly less unreliable) My self repaired GRA3 Power Supply!

Glassman EH Series 30kv @ 3mA High Voltage Power Supply

Another, somewhat later purchase was this fabulous Glassman High Voltage EH Series Power Supply, producing a steady output right up to 30KV at 3mA DC power. This unit is used for most of my Lifter experiments, as it provides tremendously consistent electrical power, thanks to separate Current and Voltage controls and meters. This baby is capable of extreme fine tuning of the output, thus allowing for exact, repeatable monitoring of electrical flow to the Lifters. Although sometimes a tad on the sensitive side, as when even the slightest arcing or over Amps occurs, it immediately shuts down for safety! This Glassman Power Supply has proven itself to be a worth while investment, since I picked it up on eBay for $275! (retail price: $1800!!) Take a hint… shop around for your high voltage power supply, as you never know when a really good deal might present itself! As one might imagine, I have since developed serious respect for high voltages, and keep my fat fingers clear, so as not to get ZAPPED by this Glassman Power Supply!
